I review board games, sometimes.

I have been an avid board gamer since I was in high school. I helped run a board and video game club at my alma mater, and I worked at board game shop during my gap year. When I moved to Irvine, I missed being engaged with a broader board gaming community.

In November of 2023, I received Daybreak as a gift from my BoardGameGeek.com Secret Santa. I wrote a review about the game in just a couple of hours — some haphazard thoughts that I never imagined anyone would read. To my great surprise, though, the piece was well-received!

I realized that, with more and more games coming out with nature, climate, solarpunk, or ecological themes, there must be an audience for more of this type of content. I followed up with a piece on Earthborne Rangers, specifically focusing on its sustainable production.

Finally, I covered the remarkable true story of the clean energy transition in Uruguay and how it is reflected in the game Pampero.

While these two reviews are my only two pieces to date, I have plans for much more content in the future. It will be slow to come, as my PhD has to come first, and I want to create meaningful content that goes beyond a regurgitation of mechanics. So, stay tuned — I will be sure to update my blog and post on BGG when I have something more to offer!

If you’d like me to review a particular game, or you have follow-up questions or opinions, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

I’m not making content on any regular schedule – finishing my PhD is my top priority – so instead of a Patreon, I’ve opted to start a Ko-Fi. I’m not trying to earn enough money to make a living from this, but if you buy me a coffee, maybe I’ll save the world a little faster.
